How was the book of "It's not summer without you" by Jenny Han?

In my personal opinion I can’t be considered as a person that likes to spend a lot of time reading but when a book interested me I can spend much of my time doing it. I like to read when I travel from one place to another and the travel is long, it makes me don’t feel boring during the time that takes the travel. Last year when I was in 8th grade my English teacher give us as a project to choose a book and I choose “The Summer I Turned Pretty” (the 1st book of the trilogy) because one friend recommended to me, so I decided to read it, but now Ms. Johnson (my actual English teacher) give us as a project to choose a book and make some writing during we where reading the book, so I think it was a good moment to start reading the second book because I really enjoy reading the first one. I think that is one of the best books I had read. In my opinion Jenny Han is an excellent writer. I like how she write with so many details that help you understand better but I also like how she use events from the past and put them in the story as flashbacks, that makes you feel part of the book and understand better how everything happens.

“It’s Not Summer Without You” is the second book of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” written by Jenny Han. The story mostly moves forward instead of jumping back and forth between the past and the present, which allows a nice flow. In the first book we can only read Belly’s point of view but in this book we can read Belly and Jeremiah’s points of views. Belly is used to counted the days until summer, until she get backs at Cousins Beach with Conrad and Jeremiah, but not this year, not after Susannah got sick again and dies. Everything that was right and good has fallen apart after Susannah death. Belly, Conrad and Jeremiah get affect with Susannah death but they would need to overcome Susannah death and face that she is not more with them. Belly wishing summer would never come but when summer is about to start she receive Jeremiah calls saying Conrad has disappeared. Belly knows that she need to help Jeremiah to take back home Conrad, so Belly and Jeremiah would need to go back at Cousins Beach where the three of them would return together, the way things used to be.

This book it is a great choose for girls between 12-17 years old, that like to read about love with some conflicts that our characters will need to face to have a happy end. In this book we see how each character deals with devastating events (love and loss), but it still manages to retain its summery feel. Belly is in a hard situation between two brothers: Conrad and Jeremiah that get in love with the time and the two of them will do everything that is in their hands to be with Belly but at the end she will only choose one of them and the other will need to accept her decision. It is an excellent book that deserve to be read.

The title is related to the book because Belly for summer always goes to Cousin Beach to spend summer in company of Conrad, Jeremiah, Susannah, her mother and brother but this summer after Susannah death they will not return to that beach house that saw them grow up or that is what she thinks but a call will change everything and they will come back but things will not be the same.

Yes, there are! One of the most significant is when Conrad disappears and Jeremiah call Belly. Then Belly and Jeremiah start to look for Conrad but this scene will affect the entire book because the 3 of them will return to Cousins Beach, to the place that wasn’t in their list of places to spend summer and there is when the real story of “It’s not summer without you” start.

Talking about Belly’s interactions with other, she is very prone to keep things inside and don’t tell them to anybody. Belly is a girl that doesn’t tell how she feels about something that is happens to she.  “That was nothing. This, this was heartbreak. The pain in your chest, the ache behind your eyes. The knowing that things will never be the same again. It’s all relative, I suppose. You think you know love, you think you know real pain, but you don’t. You don’t know anything.” These is some of Belly’s thoughts that support about what I say about Belly that she is a girl that is so reserved about what she feels and thinks.

The main conflict in this book is Belly’s relationship with Conrad but also Jeremiah is related to this conflict. Everything starts after Susannah’s death of Cancer. Conrad becomes very isolated and actually he disappears and not tells anyone where he was going. So Jeremiah called Belly to inform that Conrad disappears and Belly want to help Jeremiah because she thinks is the correct but also even she don’t want to accept it she loves Conrad and want to know that Conrad is okay. This change Belly, Conrad and Jeremiah summer.

Yeah of course I like it!! I really like it because Jenny Han add Jeremiah’s point of view and it makes it more interesting to know what Jeremiah feels, sees, hears, smell and taste. It’s interesting because Jeremiah is an important character in the story and to read his point of view makes you understand better what is happen around this important character. And NO I will not change anything but I will add the point of view of Conrad. Because I will like to read what is he feeling about the conflicts that he is facing.

Well in the first book we can only read what Belly sees, hears and fells but in the second book is not only Belly’s point of view also Jeremiah’s point of view. You can easily find out who is the narrator because when Jeremiah is narrating the story the author tells you at the start of the chapter. But if Belly is narrating the story, you can figure it out because she uses the word “I”.

isabel Conklin "Belly":
is the main character, protagonist and narrator of the book the it's not summer without you. She is the daughter of Laurel and the younger sister of steven. she has a passion for swimming and water that is why she like to return every summer to Cousins. She has been know to have a crush on Conrad since she was young. She loves Susannah, she is like a second mother for Belly.

Conrad Fisher:
the oldest son of Susannah and Adam Fisher and older brother of JEremiah . Conrad is know to keep all his emotions and feelings inside and rarely, if not ever, expresses them. He is rebellious, stubborn and infuriating much of the time.

Jeremiah Fisher "Jere" :
the youngest member of Fisher family. He is a good friend of Belly and a loving brother to Conrad but also a excellent son for Susannah.  IN "IT`S not Summer Without You"  jEREMIAH relates part of the story from his point of view but also in this book he gets tired of burying his feelings for Belly.

Susannah fisher "Beck": mother of Conrad and Jeremiah. Beck is friend of Belly´s mother and she saw Belly as a daughter that she never had. She is know to be so friendly, loving and compassionate. she is sick of cancer and in "it´s not summer without you"  she dies and her death affect everyone.

Why I choose this book?
Well our english teacher assigned us a project to find a book and read it and then make some activities after we finish to read the book. I decided to read "It's not summer without you" because last year I read "The summer I turned pretty"  the first of the three books that Jenny Han write and I really enjoy reading the first book. So I decide to read the second book and I also like how Jenny Han write.
